Steering Relay | ||
October - 2013. Government Stutdown, Oct 1 - and I had some extra time to work on Rovers. I was also in the middle of a major project on the Badger started a few weeks earlier. We had some rainy days, so I decided to tackle the steering relay. When Dave cut the frame up (2002?) I took the front section with the steering relay up to NY. Shayne had a press and I did not and was hoping he could get the relay out of the frame. Well, he never got to it, the frame section got buried in the barn and at some point wound up outside. Earlier this year (2013) I rescued it from going to the scrap yard, brought it home and started soaking the relay with PB blaster. I did get a press a few years ago so I had a go at it. Took a lot of heat, PB Blaster and many bad words but the relay was out of the frame. |

Relay is disassembled here and the case has been cleaned up and painted. Too many years out in bad weather and failed seals. The relay shaft is badly pitted. I need to replace the bushings, seals and the shaft. |
